Paper plate Christmas trees, 2 ways. {Toddler Craft}

Hello lovelies!
Yesterday we had a day that was so terrific it deserves a blog post.
I recently wrote a very honest blog post about feeling like I lost some of the sparkle out my life, I was trying to get it back – it was almost there… But not just yet.
But yesterday, that day sparkled and it sparkled hard. Maybe it was the fact LuLu used most of the contents of a huge gold glitter shaker or maybe it was because yesterday was just really, really lovely.
Now, the day didn’t start off super splendid. My day had started at 5am when Trent got up for work and then we were all up. Thankfully I was able to persuade LuLu to have snuggles for an extra hour, but she was pretty insistent that I get up and make her some breakfast.
Now at the time I often do not enjoy dragging myself out of bed, but I do actually love getting up early, especially in the warmer months. I can get lots of jobs done when it’s nice and cool (before the Summer heat kicks in) and I just feel very productive which in turn makes me feel great.
Anyway, we had an early start on the day, not by choice – but I am glad we did…
I got my jobs for the day out of the way early and then I decided LuLu and I would attempt a Christmas craft. Our first Christmas craft.
We made paper plate Christmas trees in 2 styles. We made 1 of each for our house, my parents and for my Nin. These sweet little crafts make lovely little gifts to Grandparents from your child, we delivered the finished product to my Mum yesterday afternoon and it was hung straight away on the fridge.

Our sparkly Christmas trees.

I just used items I had laying around the house so you could do this too with your littlies.

For this craft you will need;

  • Paper plates
  • Scissors
  • Stapler/tape
  • Green paint
  • Glitter, embellishments, pom poms – anything you have laying around.
  • Optional – magnet. (Attach to back with glue or tape after child has finished decorating, for easy display on a fridge)
Directions;
For the flat layered Christmas tree I just cut 3 triangle shapes out of a plate and stapled them together. After cutting out 3 of the same shaped triangle you are left with 1 very small triangle, I used this as the trunk and just stapled it all together.
For the cone shaped Christmas tree, I cut a section of the plate out and then just formed a cone shape and stapled it together. You could also cut the plate in half and then shape a cone out of the half.
Sorry I didn’t really use a pattern, I just free handed everything. So it was all trial and error and they are by no means cut out perfectly. I actually didn’t plan to blog about them either which is why I didn’t take photos of all the steps. And just a note, when buying paper plates, find the cheapest ones possible. The more expensive ones tend to have a clear coating over them, you want proper paper plates to do crafts with.
Step 1; Do not squeeze your paint tubes so hard the nozzle end shots off and into the cup of paint. Great start to the project Bindy, good job Pinterest Mum…
Next I just gave LuLu a pot of green paint (I mixed some craft paint I had with a green glitter paint) and let her paint all the trees. She did incredibly well, this was her first ever Christmas craft.
The paint needed to be applied very thickly in LuLu’s opinion.
While we let the trees dry we went outside for a play, to hang out the laundry and to check out our tomato bushes. We picked the little tomatoes and sat in the sun and ate them… Yum!
Yummy home grown tomatoes – the perfect snack for in the back yard.
After the trees were dry (“I had distracted LuLu long enough to let them dry as much as they could”) I set LuLu up to decorate her trees. I gave her a pot of craft glue and a paint brush, a box of embellishments like old ribbon, cut up pipe cleaners, pom poms, sequins and her favourite decorative touch – the gold glitter shaker.
Now I warn you, if you do this and want to use glitter – be prepared it will get messy. Ours did – there was glitter everywhere. And that is ok. LuLu was having fun and in my opinion glitter is the prettiest mess you can have.
I personally think the glitter adds a nice festive touch to the floor and this maybe a new favourite photo of mine.
I sat there in awe watching her dip her brush into the glue and paint the tree, carefully picking out sequins to push into the glob of white glue and then grabbing the shaker and covering the tree, the table and the floor in gold glitter. Moments like this are what I dreamed of being a Mumma. Just having fun, doing crafts, making memories and a mess and just being together.
LuLu took decorating her trees very,very seriously. Every tree (& the table & floor) needed a good healthy dose of gold glitter.
Our craft table afterwards. Clean up was pretty easy. I picked up the pieces I wanted to save/reuse, cleared the table, rolled up and tossed away the drawing paper that covers the table and did a quick vacuum. Easy! We then went and jumped in the pool to clean and cool ourselves.
One of LuLu’s masterpiece proudly displayed on Ninna and Poppa’s fridge.
That sparkle, I love it and it’s coming back, in full force. We take our sparkle very seriously.

I encourage you to have a go at this super simple craft and let me know how you go. I would love to see the photos of your little ones masterpieces.
If you don’t have any green paint at home, making home made paint is super easy, check out my recipe HERE.
I also have a Pinterest board full of Toddler Christmas craft ideas that you can check out HERE.
Also, I have a give away running on THIS post, so make sure you check it out and ENTER! (2 days left to enter!)
Have a lovely weekend and if you do this craft, share your trees with me on my social media.

Honesty; Finding the balance & joy this Christmas.

Good morning friends,
It is December – finally!
The tree is up, (has been for weeks), festive excitement has filled my heart – as well as a bit of festive stress for not being as organised as I wished I was.
We get 1 December a year and I feel I am kind of not ready for it.
I feel like every time I set out to do something festive it gets put on the back burner because I think I should be doing “more important” tasks, like revacuuming the house. I need to find the balance of doing what I need to do but at the same time making sure I enjoy this beautiful time of year with my little darling and for myself.
Now, let me get honest with you all for a moment… Here’s some “real talk”…
I truly feel like I had great balance going all year, I did. I had my routine, I always had lists of fun things to do & I just feel like I was going great in life, I was confident in being me & my Mothering, to me my life sparkled and I was proud of it.
Then in the last couple of months things took a bit of a downwards spin for our little family and it threw me out of whack. Things out of my control happened.
It was like I was a snow globe, I was picked up and shaken so hard and parts of me were falling everywhere and I was rushing around trying to catch it all. I burnt myself out trying to fix things I couldn’t & being stressed, I should’ve just stood back and watched it all fall, embraced the sadness & pain momentarily but let it fall away. And once it had happened & I had processed it, then I should have dealt with the mess. But instead I gathered it all up tried to hold onto to it, when there was nothing I could do.
But we’ve passed the hard stuff, we are finding our feet again, our routine is coming back, my lists of fun things to do for Christmas has started and I can see the sparkle coming back into my life. It’s there, I see a glimmer of the sparkle at the end of the tunnel, it’s there and I’m close – but not there, just yet.
I do think I need to cut myself some slack at times. I feel we as Mothers put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect in life, to be “Pinterest perfect” and to create the magic in our children’s lives.
And now, I am not saying that is bad. I personally love creating magic, waving my festive freak flag around, planning activities and aiming for something close to “Pinterest perfection” – but at the same time we need to give ourself some grace. We need to accept life won’t always be perfect, that it is ok to have moments that don’t sparkle and as long as you keep striving for a better day than the bad day before, it is ok. If you actively work towards things getting better, it will. Life will throw a spanner in the works it always seems when life feels perfect. Maybe it’s to knock us back down so we stay grounded? I don’t know – there are a lots of ways to look at it. But I do know without the rain we don’t get rainbows and if it’s never dark we can never appreciate the stars.
I’ve been reprioritising lately, I’m in the process of cleaning out our lives, rebuilding our routine, my mindset, our activities lists – I am getting back on top. I had to, our life had a major disruption, I became unwell, I needed some time to process everything and I lost my way for a few weeks. So I just focused on us, the three of us. That’s what is important to me. I said “no” to other distractions and simplified.
There is no shame in taking time to focus on what is important and simplifying life so you can regroup and restructure your life. Unfortunately I needed to do this before my favourite time of year, so I feel coming into the Christmas season I am kind of unprepared, but slowly things are falling back into place – I am almost back on top, that sparkle is almost back… Almost. I am determined to get it back before Christmas.
I think Christmas for a lot of people, especially Mumma’s can be stressful – we are trying to out decorate, out craft and outdo each other – or even just be “as good” as the next Mum or that Pinterest picture. But this year, for me – I am focusing on us.
Christmas to me is about family and remembering why we celebrate. I want to teach my daughter that this season is more about giving & serving others than receiving, not just about the lovely crafts & baking. Even though that is a wonderful thing to do, I assure you we will be doing some of them. But if I don’t get “it all” done, that is ok.
As long as we remember the reason for the season, we look for opportunities to give and the 3 of us (well, plus the 9 other members) are together on Christmas day, it’s all wonderful.
This year isn’t about making Christmas perfect, it’s about focusing on how fortunate we are, why we celebrate Christmas and family. That’s it. And as long as I have that, I am ok.
(And a few chances to craft & bake with my sweet girl will be wonderful too!)
Remember to soak in the feeling of Christmas and just be, be with those you love.

I hope you are all enjoying the start of this wonderful time of year and that this honest post was something you all enjoyed. I never intend to come across as our life being perfect, I just refuse to focus in on the negative. But Christmas is hard on everyone at times and I thought I would share this – just incase it helps one person.
Love to you all & a big Christmas hug!

Life lately… {27.Nov.2015}

Hello!
I apologise for this blog being a little late – life is full on at the moment. As it always is for everyone at this time of the year, but to add to the general busyness, I am again unwell & feeling awful. I feel like I can’t catch a break at the moment, but I am powering on and working with my doctor to try and sort it out… I’m praying by next week we have a better idea of what’s going on. The feeling of being unwell & being completely exhausted constantly is never fun & it is especially awful when you have a very active little 2 year old.
But I will live, life being busy and all festive at the moment is a wonderful distraction & is helping me stay positive!
This weekend is a busy one for us, tonight we have Trent’s work Christmas party, so it’s a chance for me to do my hair, wear makeup and nice shoes and go out for a meal & some drinks with his friends. Tomorrow night I have my brothers 21st birthday party, it is actually both of my brother’s birthdays today – they are 19 & 21. And yes, both born on the exact same day – but 2 years apart…
So I am really looking forward to our very social weekend and having some excuses to dress up!
Next weekend there are some Christmas events happening in our town which I am hoping we get to attend.

I thought for this post I would share what we’ve been up to lately, I don’t often do these type of posts. So I thought it might be a nice change – something a bit personal… (You may know some of this already if you follow me on social media!)
The other week I was brave and chopped my hair off. It was fairly long and now it sits just on/ a tiny bit below my shoulders. I LOVE it.
I purchased this colouring book the other day, I can’t wait to have some spare time so I can sit down and start it!

The days have been so hot lately, so we have had lots of water play to stay cool… Playing with the water table and the hose, swimming in the pool and midday baths!

With the hot weather, comes storms! And we love a good storm. (Not destructive though!)

LuLu and I did the first of some Christmas baking this week, short bread stars. Yum!
We also started our Christmas shopping this week. We had a day shopping with Auntie Noo Noo.

I am loving having all my Christmas decorations out, including my Christmas books. Do you have some festive books? If you do, tell me your recommendations! (I LOVE both of these!)

What have you been up to this week? Are you preparing for Christmas? I can’t believe we have less than a month to go and I still haven’t finished my Christmas shopping!!
If you would like to stay up to date with what’s going on in my life please check out my social media accounts, I update them fairly regularly;

Tutorial; Recycled Ammo Christmas Bauble {VIDEO}

Hello!
It’s nearly Christmas – it’s nearly Christmas! Ok, a little while to go – but it’s close…
I tried to keep the Christmas posts until December – I did… But I did this awesome craft over the weekend & it’s super basic, but I am in love with it – it takes next to no time at all (can totally be done during your child’s nap time!) and I was so excited about it – I filmed a video. Yes, I FILMED A VIDEO! And I have been so excited to share it with you all… So I am sharing a Christmas craft tutorial – in November… But hey, it’s late November – so that is ok, right?
Oh heck, even if it isn’t right – I am proudly waving my festive freak flag!
Now, I know this may not appeal to everyone – but the beauty of this craft is you can totally customise it to your own taste… You can add whatever you like…
I made “recycled ammo Christmas baubles” or “bullet baubles”…

But you could add into the bauble anything you love…
I know a lot of people don’t have surplus of empty shells laying around like I do – but I know some of my readers are fellow hunters & shooters.
This ornament would also be a great addition to a gift you are giving to someone who maybe interested in hunting or shooting. Just wrap the gift in brown paper, tie with brown string and attach the bauble – I think it would look really great.
This is the perfect ornament for “manly men” – my husband, brothers & Dad don’t care that much for Christmas decorations – they just go along with whatever is put out or on the tree – but they thought these were really cool. And because it’s made from empty shells, bullets they actually shot – it makes it a little more special.
The baubles I used are from Lincraft and I got them when they were on a 50% off Christmas stock – I can’t remember the exact price but I am positive they were under $4. I’ve also seen clear shatterproof baubles at some cheap stores.
So here is the tutorial, (if by chance the video isn’t showing up please click HERE)

I really love how these turned out. I made 4. 1 for our tree, 1 each for my brothers & their girlfriends and 1 for my parents. They were all really impressed with them.

If you recreate this craft, please send me a photo on one on my social media – I would love to see!!

Domestic Engineering; Dettol Give Away.

This post is a give away sponsored by Dettol. Dettol is a brand my family & I use in our home. We know it and trust it, I am please to be bringing you this wonderful give away.

November is here and I am going to be honest and say I may have possibly set up all my Christmas decorations last week… My house may look like somewhere Buddy the Elf would love to hang out… And I love it.
I like to get my Christmas decorating done early, it leaves time for Christmas activities, crafts, baking, I can see what new decorations I need/want to buy and the house is festive for when we have visitors.
 (I have posted some photos of my latest Christmas purchases on my social media and I’ll share some photos of my decorations shortly!)
November and December is a busy time for everyone, I feel when the weather warms up and the Christmas season arrives everyone gets more social. We have more bbqs, more friends drop by to say hello and we just enjoy having people visit.
But being this busy often means my cleaning routine gets messed around, so I like to keep products on hand that help me quickly give me a house a “clean appearance” but at the same time make it actually clean & hygienic.
Sometimes in the silly season people like to give you a 10 minute warning before they drop around. A quick text to say “hey, what are you doing? Mind if we pop over and say hello?” – now I will rarely turn someone down to visit – especially around Christmas, I love our home being a warm and inviting place for people to visit. So after a message like that it normally sparks a “clean as much as I can shake down” of the house before they arrive. I like to believe my house is in a constant state of being reasonably clean, but a quick re-clean of the kitchen bench & guest bathroom just makes me feel a little more confident in the appearance of my home.
The cleaning products I am using at the moment and that I think are great are by Dettol.
The Surface Cleanser and the Healthy Clean Kitchen Spray are my top 2.
Dettol is household name that people associate with hygienic & clean – well I know I do. It is a brand I trust.
The Surface Cleanser is a great cleaning product, it cleans everything from toys, the bench tops in my bathrooms and kitchen, the bin and I even use it to wipe down the toilet.
The Healthy Kitchen Spray leaves my stainless surfaces really shiny and I feel confident knowing my kitchen surfaces are clean and hygienic after using this product.
The surface cleanser is good for a quick clean and the kitchen spray is a wonderful deep cleaning product that is perfect to use if you have a bit of time up your sleeve.
Another product by Dettol I really like and have a few stashed in different places are the little healthy touch hand sanitisers. I’ve been using these since before I had LuLu, they are great for keeping in your hand bag, nappy bag and in the car. I had the pump version as well on LuLu’s change table and also have them in the bathrooms. Hand sanitiser is a must for anyone, but especially for parents!

Dettol also has a vast range of other great products for your family and home, I also really love the disinfectant wipes that make cleaning super fast & convenient.
I’ve partnered with Dettol this month to bring you all an exciting give away just in time for Christmas. Having extra cleaning products is a blessing this time of year, we are cooking & entertaining more often and therefore cleaning more, so I thought this give away would be perfect.
For this give away you’ll win a gift pack of 3 brilliant Dettol products,
1x Surface Cleanser Wipes.
1x Surface Cleanser trigger – mint & lime.
